August SCAN Meeting

August saw ACCM meeting up with the outstanding RTOs supporting the South Coast Assessor’s Network (SCAN).

What does SCAN do?

If you don’t know what SCAN does, keep reading and you’ll be very happy to see what this amazing organisation is doing to keep RTOs in the Illawarra strong and informed!

There is a LOT going on in the VET sector, and talking it through with other RTOs helps ensure better understanding for all.

VET reform is always a work in progress, and 'the times they are a-changin'' as the VET industry and the national focus continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of industry and learners.

Topics discussed

Here are some of the highpoint topics the SCAN team discussed this cycle:

  • VET data streaming program - means to provide ‘real time’ data and to align nation-wide data requirements to deliver better national focus on VET training and results
  • Industry Engagement – this is the lifeblood of the VET sector and meaningful engagement takes a great focus in an ever-changing workforce
  • USI Transcripts – The USI has transformed the VET sector, but without timely updates by RTOs (and government agencies), students may not get the visibility they have earned!
  • Qualification reform – initial discussion indicating it would be good to condense or review the units that are repetitive and across so many areas. This is a major change that is being considered at the national level, and would see common/core units being 'added to' as people progress in their careers.

What is SCAN?

For anyone who doesn’t know what SCAN is, we are the South Coast Assessors Network, a group of VET professionals who work together to share knowledge, promote the VET sector and help each other ensure RTOs in the Illawarra exceed the requirements of ASQA

This group of VET experts is led by the amazing Sarah Medezi (our good friend at Early Childhood Development and Professional Development or ECTARC).

If you are keen to join this Illawarra-based team of VET professionals, just reach out to Sarah at sarah@ectarc.com.au
