A Promising New Partnership
ACCM is proud to be supporting this groundbreaking new program offering a unique opportunity to NSW-based indigenous students.
The NSW Police Force has recently begun a program aimed at expanding the opportunities of school-aged indigenous students across north-western NSW. The program will see students enrolled into a School-based traineeship, which will allow them to work directly within NSW Police and build valuable on-the-job experience, as well as obtaining a nationally accredited qualification.
The program aims not only to broaden the horizons of the students, but also to help improve the relationship between the Police Force and Aboriginal people.
Central North Police District Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Wally Cran, says there is a lot to do in order to mend bridges between police and indigenous Australians.
"We're breaking down the barriers from an early age,鈥 he said.
We're trying to right the wrongs of the past and getting the young ones to work is a step in the right direction.鈥
ACCM will be doing our part to deliver a high-quality learning program and ongoing support for our School-Based Trainees as they take part in this life-shaping opportunity.
